With Throwing Knives in Helldivers 2, When Will Melee Weapons Make Their Debut?

The recent Helldivers 2 update (version 01.000.400) has been a blast for players, thanks to the introduction of new cosmetic styles, including Titles and more. A standout feature of this update is the new Throwing Knives Stratagem. Players are loving this addition, but it also raises an important question: when will melee weapons be added to Helldivers 2?

Reddit user U/Will-O-Weeb started a discussion about the new Throwing Knife items in the Viper Commandos Warbond. Given their popularity, many gamers are now curious about when regular melee weapons might be introduced.

“At first, I didn’t expect much from the knife. I had heard it wasn’t as effective as other options. But it looked cool, so I gave it a try. A hunter enemy appeared next to me, and I went for a melee hit with the knife, but nothing happened. No splash of blood—except mine. Is it too much to ask for a melee weapon that actually works in melee? Helldivers should be able to fight enemies up close if they want to.”

Right now, Helldivers 2 doesn’t have any true melee weapons, just a melee button that isn’t very useful. Pressing it makes your character hit enemies with the butt of their gun, but this does minimal damage and usually takes three or four hits to take down a basic Automaton enemy. Its only real purpose is to give you a moment to switch to your secondary weapon if you’re in a tight spot. If the Throwing Knife were converted into a regular melee weapon, it could deal more significant damage and be a practical secondary weapon.

Arrowhead Game Studios has many options for adding melee weapons. They could go with traditional weapons like knives or bats, or they could get creative with fun, themed weapons related to the Warbond.
