Ubisoft Takes Action on XDefiant Sniper, Yet Gamers Clamor for Further Tweaks

When XDefiant first launched, the meta revolved around two things: jump-spamming and sniper rifles. Ubisoft quickly stepped in with a patch to address these overpowered mechanics. While jump-spamming is no longer a big issue, sniper rifles still dominate the game, regardless of the mode you play. Because of this, players are urging the developers to further nerf these one-shot weapons, as they make straight-up gunfights feel almost impossible.

On Reddit, a user named u/iamRaz, who describes themselves as a frequent sniper user, admitted that the powerful rifle needs more nerfing. To prove their point, they shared a video showing themselves single-handedly dominating an Escort match using only the M44 sniper rifle and occasionally using a Mag Barrier for cover. Throughout the short clip, they effortlessly took out multiple enemies, making it clear that the opposing players stood little chance.

The recent patch from XDefiant added a small flinch when players are hit by enemy fire while using a sniper rifle. However, this hasn’t been enough to level the playing field. Most players still struggle in long-range duels against snipers, and the flinch effect is almost nullified by quick-scoping at close range.

Despite ongoing issues like hit registration problems and with a new game mode on the horizon, another sniper nerf may not be the developers’ top priority. Nevertheless, the XDefiant team has been transparent and communicative since the game’s release. They will likely share more details about their future plans, whether that includes further adjustments to sniper rifles or not.
