With Modern Warfare II’s release just around the corner, players are eager to see what new experiences Infinity Ward has in store. Like in the previous game, they’re updating the parkour system, taking cues from Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, and adding brand-new features and mechanics. Here’s what you need to know!
Gameplay Overview
Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer maps are designed to be more compact and structured. But in Warzone 2, you’ll get to experiment with these new mechanics in a larger, more dynamic setting where you can cleverly use the environment to your advantage.
Movement Mechanics
Ladders & Ropes
– With ladders, you can place them alongside walls, containers, and buildings. However, unsupported ladders will fall and break, resetting the Field Upgrade.
– Ropes let you climb up and down buildings. While repelling, you can swing through windows or collapsed walls. You can also attach ropes to vehicles and other players for quick rescues.
Shifting & Strafing
– Strafing allows you to move sideways and backward. If you encounter a threat or turn a corner where you’re at a disadvantage, you can shift out of the area to get a better view of your options.
Wall-Climbing
– Players can climb walls depending on the height of the platform they are trying to reach.
Ledge-Hanging
– This new mechanic lets players grab onto ledges, making it possible to reach hard-to-access areas while reducing fall damage. You can also use your sidearm while hanging.
Sliding
– Sliding has been updated so players can now slide into a prone position or down slopes and inclines.
Bunny-Hopping
– The height from which you fall impacts the speed boost you gain when bunny-hopping.
New Gameplay Features
Quick Sidearm Draw
– Quickly switch to your sidearm with one hand, which can also be done with lethal equipment.
Suppressor Meter
– Change the size of suppressors, which affects recoil, damage, and range. A meter helps you find the balance you prefer.
Weapon Handling (Grips)
– Choose from different tactical grips that affect weapon accuracy and speed, like Magwell or C-Clamp grips.
Magazine Check Animation
– In modes with minimal HUD, you can inspect your weapon’s magazine count.
Reticle Ammunition Count
– A new feature where reticles display the weapon’s ammo count, applicable for revolvers and shotguns.
These updates and new mechanics introduce a fresh learning curve, allowing players to practice, master, and string together these new gameplay features effectively.
